The Adviser, Government and Public Affairs plays a vital role in supporting the Qantas Government and Public Affairs team across a broad spectrum of political, policy, and regulatory priorities at both the State and Federal levels. Working closely with colleagues across the Government Relations function, the Adviser contributes to the protection and advancement of the Qantas Group’s reputation, as well as its commercial and policy interests, through engagement with government, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders.

This role supports the successful implementation of the Group’s Government Relations Strategy through research, analysis, coordination, and communications support. Key responsibilities include assisting with Qantas’ engagement with Federal, State, and Territory governments by preparing briefing materials, correspondence, and stakeholder collateral. The Adviser also sources and analyses information from internal and external stakeholders to inform submissions, briefings, and responses to government inquiries. Additionally, the role involves supporting the planning and coordination of stakeholder outreach initiatives and engagement activities, as well as contributing to the delivery of projects and events through effective logistics, communication, and cross-functional coordination. The Adviser maintains stakeholder tracking systems and supports the ongoing planning and reporting of engagement activities.

You’ll have –

  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role with a track record of success
  • Tertiary qualifications in communications / law / economics / politics or equivalent
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills 
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills with the ability to build lasting relationships with
    internal and external stakeholders 
  • Strong analytical and research skills with an attention to detail and a sense of curiosity
  • The ability to manage complex issues and exercise sound judgement 
  • Resilient with the capacity to work in a high-pressure, changing environment under tight deadlines, and in ways which foster collaboration
  • Understanding of the political landscape, workings of parliament and the regulatory environment 
  • Interest in and some knowledge of air transport and tourism sectors (desirable)
