With the ability to understand our customers - your strong commitment to customer service, demonstrated through recent experience in a face-to-face hospitality, health services, retail or customer service role, will shine through!
You’ll work as part of a team, adapting to various situations with warmth and professionalism. Safety is our top priority, and you’ll receive thorough training in aircraft safety and security procedures. Your appreciation for cultural diversity and genuine approach will ensure exceptional support for all passengers, including children traveling alone, nervous flyers, and non-English speakers.
Language skills are utilised in assisting our customers with both service and safety information. Demonstrated fluency in at least one of the following priority languages will offer a distinct advantage for our international cabin crew positions: Cantonese, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, and Vietnamese.
Training
Cabin crew training can be a challenging experience. There's a lot of information to absorb and put to use in practical ways. It requires commitment, but you'll graduate with invaluable new skills.
Successful recruits will begin our training program covering customer service, aviation first aid, aircraft, personal safety, security, and emergency procedures. Training involves written and practical components, and you will need to pass the exams for all subjects to get your wings!
During training you will learn how to complete a range of key safety procedures, these include:
- Lifting a 28kg aircraft window exit
- Dealing with emergencies in a smoke-filled simulator
- Swimming and assisting people in the water
- Descending an escape slide from nine metres above the ground
- Fighting fires while wearing a full-face mask
- How to keep calm and control people in panic situations
- Moving people with a disability in evacuation situations

Qantas Domestic Pty Limited (QD)
Being part of Qantas Domestic cabin crew means working across the major domestic ports in Australia and from time to time flying to some of our neighbouring countries in the Asia/Pacific region. QD employs cabin crew in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.
QantasLink (Sunstate Airlines and Eastern Australian Airlines)

Jetconnect Cabin Crew New Zealand
Jetconnect Short-haul cabin crew members based in Auckland and Wellington take pride in being the face of Qantas on trans-Tasman routes, servicing more than 150 flights a week between New Zealand and Australia on Qantas B737 aircraft. Jetconnect long-haul cabin crew members based in Auckland fly across the Qantas network in Australia and internationally to places like New York, Los Angeles, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Johannesburg.

Online assessment
After your initial application, we’ll ask eligible candidates to complete an online assessment about their values, experience, and motivations. It helps us assess personality traits, behavioral competencies, and language skills to make sure you’re a good fit for the role.
Assessment day
If you meet the initial requirements, we may invite you to a face-to-face assessment day. These are highly interactive and allow you to meet and talk with a group of Qantas representatives. The day includes a one-on-one behavioural-based interview, group activity, written comprehension assessment, and a height and reach test.
Pre-Employment checks
Before we make an offer to you, we’ll first need to complete various checks, including reference checks, a background check, criminal and security clearances, and a medical examination.
Training
If you’re successful, then congratulations! You’ll join the Qantas Cabin Crew training program, which can take place in Australia and around the world. The program takes up to eight weeks and covers topics like customer service, aviation first aid, aircraft and personal safety, and emergency procedures. It’s an intensive training program that involves written and practical components, including exams that you must pass to proceed.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the minimum requirements to become a Cabin Crew member within the Qantas Group?
- Minimum 18 years of age. For most of our airlines, cabin crew need to be between 163cm-186cm in height.
- For our QantasLink (Sunstate and Eastern) operations cabin crew need to be between 158cm-183cm tall.
- To be legally able to live and work in Australia which means Australian or New Zealand permanent residency.
- Hold a passport ensuring unrestricted access to all Qantas destinations with at least 12 months validity.
- QCCUK applicants must hold the legal right to live and work in the UK.
Are there any qualifications or certificates I need?
Yes, you'll need the following:
- A Water Competency Certificate which demonstrates an excellent level of health and fitness, and importantly your ability to swim 50 metres fully clothed unassisted and tread water for 3 minutes
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate with a validity of 12 months at the time of application, and
- Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate issued by your State Authority.
What are the locations for your cabin crew bases?
There are a range of base locations depending on the airline – there are several locations across Australia, New Zealand and in London where cabin crew opportunities will arise from time to time.
What is the cabin crew salary?
We provide all the information you need about salaries during our recruitment process. Our cabin crew are employed under Enterprise Agreements that apply to employees in each employing entity.
Will Qantas pay for me to relocate?
A significant lifestyle change can come with being a cabin crew member, which sometimes means packing up and relocating. We don't pay for relocation costs, so we ask that you really consider what location you apply for and whether or not you can realistically make the move.
