Engineering the Future: Qantas Apprentices Share Their Journey

At Qantas, safety is at the heart of everything we do—and our aircraft engineers are the people who make that possible. Every day, their expertise keeps our fleet flying safely and efficiently. Now, we’re looking for the next generation of world-class engineers to join the team.

With hundreds of new recruits needed each year, our Engineering Apprenticeship Program is one of the most popular and impactful pathways into aviation. It’s a hands-on, real-world opportunity to learn from the best and build a career in a dynamic, fast-paced industry.

We spoke to a few of our current apprentices to hear what the experience has been like so far.

Liam: First-Year Apprentice, Brisbane

“Being part of the Qantas Engineering Academy this year has been a rewarding experience. It’s given me insight into the aviation industry, helped me grow personally and professionally, and connected me with a team of like-minded people who are passionate about their job.

If you’re considering a career in aviation, I’d highly recommend applying for an apprenticeship—it’s a great way to get your foot in the door and start building a future in a growing and exciting industry.”

Alex: First-Year Apprentice, Brisbane

“My first year as a Qantas engineering apprentice has been nothing short of astounding. I'm very grateful to be part of a world-class tailored program, where we get to enjoy both theoretical and practical training.

I urge others to, like me, take the leap and pursue the apprenticeship program. It’s been a very rewarding and eye-opening experience. Each day I become more eager to continue my career as an AME, with all the challenges, experiences, and opportunities to come.”

Fahd: Third-Year Apprentice, Sydney

“The most valuable part of the apprenticeship has been the amount of knowledge and experience I’ve gained. No two days are the same, and I always leave work knowing I’ve learned something new and meaningful.

The program has helped me grow tremendously. I’ve become a more confident person, improved my hand skills and communication, and developed better habits. The support from colleagues and managers has made a huge difference too—everyone’s always willing to help.

If you’re thinking of applying, give it your best shot. It’s a great opportunity to work in an exciting environment with an awesome team behind you.”

Ari: Third-Year Apprentice, Canberra

“One of the best parts of the apprenticeship program has been working in a team where everyone’s focused on a common goal. I’ve picked up a lot of skills—from using tools and test equipment to understanding how aircraft operate—and every day brings something different.

The program’s also helped me grow a lot, especially in terms of confidence, and I’ve learned so much from the experienced tradespeople around me.

If you’re someone who enjoys hands-on work and learning something new every day, I’d definitely recommend applying for the apprenticeship program.”
