The Finance Control team is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to support a key portfolio within the Jetstar Australia and New Zealand airline business. This is a critical role responsible for the financial control of operational costs relating to Commercial Airports, Airport Services, Operations Delivery and Fuel. In FY25 this role will also join a Qantas Group cross functional project Team to support the delivery of an automated solution to managing operational costs end to end for the Group whilst ensuring ‘best for business’ for Jetstar.

Reporting into the Finance Manager of Financial Control, this position will provide you with versatility, autonomy, meaningful impact, and opportunity for growth within the broader finance team.


The core responsibilities of this role include to; 

  • Provide accurate and timely deliverables on a consistent basis including but not limited to half year and annual Group reporting requirements in all respects.

  • Review work performed by outsourced providers to ensure a smooth month end process.

  • Partner with FP&A through the investigation of actual performance vs forecast/budget in relation to operational costs.

  • Be central to collaboration discussion with Jetstar and Qantas Group Business Partners & Stakeholders regarding commercial agreements.

  • Ensure financial results reflect commercial arrangements accurately and comply with external reporting requirements.

  • Challenge current processes, think differently and explore potential solutions to optimise repetitive tasks.

  • Be a trusted member of the Financial Control Team, who proactively supports and collaborates with their Peers, to ensure the best in every respect for Financial Control

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Professional accounting qualifications (CA/CPA qualified) and experience with similar roles, with 3+ years’ experience

  • Accounting experience in a complex environment, ideally overseeing operational costs

  • Strong technical accounting, reporting and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail

  • A collaborative, adaptable and proactive nature, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • The ability to work to deadlines with strong commercial acumen

  • A passion for the airline industry and ability to work in a fast-paced, fluid and dynamic environment
