As the Technical Product Owner for the Online booking engine platform team, you will be responsible for driving technical improvements and enabling feature squads who build on top of the platform. Your focus will be on maintaining and uplifting the web booking engine as a platform whilst looking to the future as we seek to migrate to a new tech stack. It is important that we consider the reliability, security, developer experience and other important characteristics of the platform.

The core responsibilities of this role will be:

  • Product Vision and Strategy: Define and communicate the long-term platform vision, strategy, and roadmap for the online booking engine, aligning it with business goals and the needs of the feature squads.
  • Requirements Gathering and Prioritization: Collaborate with stakeholders, customers, and development teams to identify, gather, and prioritize product requirements and features based on business value and user impact.
  • Elaborate backlog items: create epics and stories, elaborate stories with acceptance criteria to guide delivery of features, communicate backlog items to the squad and be available to provide guidance during sprint.
  • Provide leadership to the Online booking engine platform team; clearly communicating your vision, set sprint goals, and remove squad impediments.
  • Uplift the Online booking engine platform; enable the feature teams to build and deliver to production with ease through managing upgrades, improving pipelines and managing the underlying infrastructure.
  • Develop an approach and strategy to migrate off the current booking engine platform to the new booking engine platform provided by our vendor.
  • Follow our competitors and the industry, drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Work with the scrum master and team to identify and manage cross-team dependencies.

To be considered, key skills will include: 

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Systems, Computer Science, or relevant industry experience
  • Product management or Product Owner qualification or equivalent experience, preferably in a web-based platform environment
  • Experience in delivering strategic, tactical and enterprise-wide changes, projects, and programmes of work
  • Strong understanding of web technologies, including frontend (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and backend (APIs, server-side technologies) aspects of web development
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies and best practices
  • Experience in conducting market research, competitive analysis, and translating customer needs into product features
  • Familiarity with e-commerce principles, user journeys, and conversion optimisation strategies
  • Proficiency in Agile methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, with experience leading Agile teams and driving iterative development
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and driving results
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders, engineers, designers, and other teams.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data, metrics, and user feedback and a problem-solving mindset, to address technical challenges and risks
  • A growth mindset and eagerness to stay updated on industry trends and ability to adapt to changing requirements
