As the Senior Manager – SMS Governance & Resilience, you’ll provide leadership in the development, execution and management of Safety Management Systems (SMS), Governance and Resilience frameworks across QantasLink Airlines, covering all aspects of People and Operational Safety. This role spans both strategic and functional safety responsibilities and plays a key part in ensuring our regional airlines continue to operate safely, efficiently and in alignment with Group strategies. 

Reporting to the Head of Safety – QantasLink, and working closely with Group SMS, you’ll provide thought leadership, influence stakeholders and ensure that safety performance, issues and risks are visible to Senior Management across our regional operations. This includes Flight Operations, Cabin Crew, Airports and Engineering across Eastern Australia, Sunstate Airlines, National Jet Systems, Network Aviation, and oversight of Alliance Airlines. 

You’ll also be responsible for ensuring the integrity of our governance and reporting frameworks – including preparation of executive and board safety reporting – and for leading safety engagement initiatives that enhance organisational resilience and safety culture maturity. 

 

You’ll have – 

  • Minimum 8+ years’ experience in safety, risk and change management or high-risk operational roles within complex, matrixed organisations within aviation 
  • Degree in Safety or Operational management focus 
  • Meet the requirements for approval by CASA under the CASR 119.165 (Safety Manager). 
  • Experience in IOSA Registration within an Airline would be advantageous 
  • Proven leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively motivate and engage a diverse range of people through communication and leadership. 
  • A collaborative and responsive leadership style, taking ownership of, and personal accountability for, decisions and actions. 
  • Innovative thinking, with the ability to leverage data, technology and new tools (AI/ML experience highly regarded) to drive continuous improvement 
  • Detailed knowledge of compliance, governance and regulatory frameworks
