Posted date: 11 March 2025

Job Description

About the Role

At Jetstar, we’re all about delivering great experiences, backing our people, and making travel accessible for everyone.

As a Regional Flying Manager, you’ll play a key leadership role in shaping the success of our Brisbane (primary location) and Gold Coast (secondary location) flying operations.

This role offers the best of both worlds, a dynamic mix of hands-on flying and strategic leadership. Your primary focus will be on leading, supporting, and developing our pilots, ensuring they are engaged, well-supported, and set up for success. At the same time, you’ll stay connected to frontline operations, including flying once settled into the role.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Flying Operations, you’ll oversee a team of approximately 260 pilots, driving operational excellence, safety, and crew engagement. As a key decision-maker, you’ll ensure our teams deliver a safe, efficient, and seamless flying experience for our customers.

Why This Role?

This isn’t just another leadership role—it’s an opportunity to make a real impact.

As Regional Flying Manager, you’ll be at the heart of shaping pilot culture, operational performance, and a strong safety-first mindset across Brisbane and the Gold Coast. You’ll balance big-picture thinking with hands-on leadership, ensuring pilots feel supported, valued, and empowered to deliver their best.

With your extensive flying experience, leadership mindset, and ability to build high-performing teams, you’ll play a crucial role in fostering a positive, engaged, and high-performance pilot group. If you thrive in a fast-paced, people-focused role where no two days are the same, this is your chance to step up and be part of something bigger.

A Day in the Life

In this role, you’ll:

  • Lead and support pilots across Brisbane and Gold Coast, acting as a key point of contact for operational, safety, and people-related matters.
  • Be a visible, engaged leader, ensuring clear communication of company policies, initiatives, and updates.
  • Balance flying duties with management responsibilities, staying connected to the operation.
  • Oversee pilot welfare and professional development, providing ongoing support, feedback, and guidance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing On-Time Performance (OTP), Work Health & Safety (WHS) compliance, and overall pilot engagement.
  • Champion safety, addressing workplace hazards and contributing to investigations.
  • Lead regional projects, improving flying operations and the pilot experience.

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for a leader with the following experience and attributes:

  • CASA ATPL (A)
  • Previous Airbus, Boeing, or high-capacity airline command experience (preferred).
  • A strong track record of technical professionalism and high standards of conduct.
  • Experience in training and checking within a high-capacity airline (preferred).
  • Previous leadership or managerial experience within or outside the Qantas Group (preferred).
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive performance, and build a strong, engaged culture.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, support pilots, and foster a positive workplace environment.
  • Thorough understanding of company manuals, policies, and operational procedures.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, and make sound decisions.
  • Willingness to be rostered as a Duty Pilot when required.
