Your Opportunity

As a Maintenance Control Manager (MCM), you will act as the tactical manager on-shift within the MOC (24/7) and provide oversight and ownership of Jetstar fleet to ensure it is safe and reliable. The MCM works directly with Ops Delivery to minimise delays and disruption, to coordinate an MOC response to incidents or events and ensure prompt AOG recovery all within the bounds of the regulatory and airworthiness framework.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Engineering Operations, you are responsible for ensuring compliance and airworthiness of the Jetstar fleet in line with CASA regulations and to ensure MOC responses benefit the airline and customers.

Additionally, the MCM is the escalation point for the MOC team 24hrs a day to ensure any challenges or risks to the operation are quickly resolved to ensure OTP and positive customer outcomes are achieved.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Acting as the 24/7 primary contact for all in-service issues, maintenance requirements, and AOG situations.
  • Lead AOG recovery efforts, especially for complex cases, ensuring timely resolution and effective planning.
  • Prioritise and manage MOC resources to optimise operational outcomes and maintain on-time performance (OTP).
  • Own and action all technical issues reported by Engineers, Operations, Flight Crew, and CAMO.
  • Make critical decisions on configuration control and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Provide tactical leadership within MOC, offering guidance and support to direct and indirect reports.
  • Drive continuous improvement within MOC and across the business, while fostering strong internal and external relationships.
  • Ensure all decisions align with Jetstar values, maintaining safety, compliance, and airworthiness.
  • Monitor defect trends, ensure timely rectification, and proactively address recurring issues.
  • Liaise with AAC/Operations to optimise aircraft scheduling for maintenance and customer experience.
  • Represent the Head of Engineering and CAM outside business hours, escalating when decisions exceed MCM authority.

To be successful in this role, ideally you’ll have:

  • An Australian (CASA) Aircraft Maintenance Engineers License preferably type rated on company aircraft (A320/1 or B787) in the B1.1/B2 category
  • A minimum of 7 years experience as a LAME or AME in a heavy/line maintenance environment
  • Maintenance Control experience – highly regarded
  • Proven leadership capability with experience managing a team in an operational environment
  • Ability to communicate with clarity, empathy, and effectiveness with all levels of internal and external stakeholders
  • An ability to find creative solutions to complex issues facing the business or operation
  • Sound knowledge of Part 145/42 regulatory frameworks
  • Understanding of how to use aviation MIS, aircraft health monitoring, and general computer software

The MCM is empowered to make independent decisions to ensure the safe, compliant, and airworthy operation of Jetstar and customer fleets, acting on behalf of the Head of Engineering or Senior Manager Maintenance Operations. This role requires strong leadership, accountability, and integrity, with a focus on critical decision-making to drive optimal operational outcomes across MOC and the broader business.
