  • Permanent full-time role based at our Collingwood office

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Manager – Commercial, Strategy and Business Performance, the Commercial Manager – Airports (GSP) will be responsible for the implementation and application of the portfolio’s ground handling commercial strategy, as set by the Airport Services Leadership Team.

Supported by the technical expertise of the GSP Performance Analyst and a team of general analysts across the portfolio given the multiple layers of interdependency, the Commercial Manager will leverage evidence-based data, balanced by operational insights, in developing and applying a fit-for-purpose framework for the effective performance management (both day to day and long term) of ground handling across the Airport Services portfolio.

By way of its balanced operational and commercial nature, a critical aspect of the role will be to ensure that by design, the commercial framework is representative of the varying operational environments in which these arrangements will function.

The core responsibilities of this role are; 

  • Critical evaluation of GSP (Ground Service Providers) performance in accordance with contracted terms
  • Investigate, determine and manage instances of poor GSP performance via commercial mechanisms, directly with the supplier
  • Provide expert advice on GSP viability to ensure operational continuity
  • Assess viability of commercial proposal during negotiations
  • Engage in long-term planning around GSP contracts, critically evaluating contract terms against business/operational requirements
  • Ability to translate complex data sources (enterprise/labour/GSE overheads and operational performance) and modelling into tangible, commercial metrics.
  • Ability to bring complex concepts to life for a diverse group of business stakeholders 
  • Develop/present financial analysis/performance for the purposes of internal and industry benchmarking
  • Co-creating the GSP strategy and evaluating with the Airport services leadership team

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Established commercial / procurement acumen – minimum 5 years’ experience
  • Mandatory – tertiary qualification in Business or Finance
  • Preferential – post-graduate qualification in Business/Commerce (i.e. MBA)
  • Aptitude for Airport Operations so as to understand operational/commercial interdependencies
  • Established ability to lead and communicate with influence, across internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Experience working alongside and presenting to executive business levels
