The Qantas Business Integrity and Compliance (BIC) team has accountability for delivering and assuring an effective business integrity compliance program across the Qantas Group, ensuring that employees, and third parties working on behalf of Qantas conduct business in an ethical and compliant manner in the countries where we operate and comply with Qantas code of conduct (Business Practices), policies and standards.

The Program Manager- Modern Slavery Risk (MSPM) is a key role within the BIC team, supporting the delivery of the Groups commitments to respect internationally recognised human rights and uphold its commitments set out in its Human Rights Policy Statement.  The MSPM will work across the Group to identify and manage potential modern slavery risks across its operations and supply chains, and will design and implement initiatives in support of the Group’s established Modern Slavery Program. On a day-to-day basis you will apply your subject matter knowledge and your program management skills to consult with and support business stakeholders to implement program initiatives; advise the business on modern slavery risk management; and work to embed modern slavery risk considerations into new projects, contracts and decision making. The MSPM will also design and deliver various training and awareness campaigns and support the drafting of the Group’s annual Modern Slavery Statement for Board approval.

You will be working with the Group Manager, Business Integrity and Compliance to develop, deliver and maintain enterprise-wide governance programs (including policies, standards, principles, training, compliance programs and frameworks) in the areas of human rights and modern slavery. Supporting the delivery of the established Modern Slavery Program to ensure the Group maintains a continuous improvement approach to the identification, assessment and management of Modern Slavery risks across its operations and value chains. Consulting with business stakeholders to support and drive modern slavery initiatives that will form part of the annual Program. Providing the business with practical and pragmatic advice on modern slavery risk and to improve the maturity of Modern Slavery risk management practices. Preparing periodic reporting for relevant governance forums on Qantas’ progress on its modern slavery program. Undertaking modern slavery due diligence and risk assessment activities, including as part of the Group’s third-party risk management program. Managing the co-ordination and contributing to the drafting of Qantas annual Modern Slavery Statement in accordance with the requirements of the Act, and managing internal processes for the Statement to be approved by the Board. As well as design and deliver modern slavery awareness campaigns to the business and its stakeholders.

You’ll have-

  • 3-5+ years of professional experience working for or directly engaging with companies on modern slavery and or broader human rights related issues.
  • Proven experience in third party due diligence and modern slavery risk assessment
  • Sound understanding of human rights standards including the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights (and the international human rights instruments referenced in them) and relevant policies and legislation, in particular the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth).
  • Sound understanding of Compliance Management and Risk Management frameworks/practices from working in other large companies
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to present information in a clear and concise manner
  • Be a trusted partner with a clear ability to inspire change, manage conflict, bring together different points of view, make decisions, gain agreement on goals.
  • Demonstrated experience working with stakeholders at all levels of the business
  • Strong focus on delivery and ability to drive positive outcomes.
  • A demonstrated willingness and ability to take ownership and accountability of decisions and advice.
  • Flexibility and ability to handle a variety of tasks, adjust quickly to priorities and meet changing business needs.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency and experience using Compliance/Due Diligence platforms
