Job Description

At Jetstar, we’re constantly evolving and innovating, always on the lookout for passionate individuals to join us on our journey. We are currently seeking a Payroll Team Leader to join our People & Communications team at our Collingwood HQ in a hybrid working capacity.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring our employees are paid accurately and on time, while leading a high-performing team that values precision, compliance, and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Head of People Services, Payroll & HR Systems, you will manage the day-to-day operations of our Australian and New Zealand payroll functions. You will oversee a team of payroll professionals, ensure compliance with regulations, and be the go-to person for payroll-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Payroll Advisors and Administrators
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for our AU & NZ operations
  • Ensure full compliance with federal and state tax laws, labour regulations, and company policies
  • Resolve complex payroll issues and ensure accurate resolution of discrepancies
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external partners such as ADP, ATO, IRD, and auditors
  • Deliver timely and accurate payroll reporting, year-end processing, and tax filings
  • Drive improvements in payroll systems and processes through automation and optimization

We are looking for someone with strong leadership skills who can demonstrate customer excellence to enhance our employee experience.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience managing payroll operations, ideally across Australia and New Zealand
  • Strong leadership capabilities with a focus on team development and collaboration
  • Deep knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and enterprise agreements
  • Expertise in payroll software and HRIS systems (ADP experience is a plus)
  • High-level analytical and problem-solving skills
  • A meticulous eye for detail and a passion for process improvement
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Formal qualifications in Finance, Commerce, or a related field are advantageous but not essential
