As we continue to grow, we’re seeking an experienced Engineering Manager – External Line Maintenance to join our team and help us shape the future of aviation excellence.

Reporting to the Manager, External Maintenance Oversight – Qantas Engineering, you will be responsible for the compliance and governance of contracted line maintenance across the Qantas network. Your role will ensure that global operations meet safety, regulatory, and policy requirements while maintaining cost efficiency and service excellence.
 

You will oversee and manage relationships with our contracted Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) partners, ensuring the successful delivery of Line Maintenance services for the Qantas Group. This includes ensuring financial, operational, and regulatory compliance across key locations in the USA, Canada, South America, South East Asia, New Zealand, and Europe. You will also support the continuous improvement of safety, quality, compliance, and commercial performance, contributing to the overall success of Qantas Engineering.

 

You’ll bring–

  • Extensive executive-level aviation experience with a strong focus on strategic leadership and operational management.
  • Proven leadership experience in a high-complexity, global aviation environment, with a demonstrated ability to manage large-scale external maintenance operations.
  • Prior experience as a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME) with a deep understanding of Line Maintenance operations and regulatory requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of Qantas aircraft, including Airbus and Boeing models, and their operational requirements.
  • Comprehensive understanding of global aviation regulations (CASA, FAA, EASA, TSA) and the ability to navigate complex compliance environments.
  • Exceptional people leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of management, internally and externally.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with experience in budget management, contract negotiations, and vendor oversight.
  • A track record of driving operational excellence, safety, and regulatory compliance in a dynamic business environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and strict time constraints.
  • Ability to travel to ports for assessment and AOG recovery as needed.
  • A demonstrated ability to drive outcomes for the Part 42 regulatory framework, with a strong focus on continuous improvement in safety, quality, compliance, operational, and commercial performance to support the best interests of the Qantas Group.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, along with previous experience holding certification licenses on Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
