As Principal Power Plant Engineer, you’ll be a key technical expert supporting Qantas Airways and customer operations—now with a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the most exciting programs in our history: Project Sunrise. This role will be deeply involved in the entry into service and ongoing support of the Airbus A350 fleet, helping shape the future of ultra-long-haul travel.

You’ll act as a focal point for all technical support related to Qantas Group engine fleets, including the new Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines powering the A350s. Reporting to the Rolls-Royce Engine Fleet Manager, you’ll be part of the Engine Fleet Management Group within Qantas Engineering Technical Services, supporting both day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.

You’ll be responsible for:  

  • Technical reviews, assessments and authorisations to support the ongoing airworthiness management of the specific Qantas Group engine fleet(s).
  • The assessment, implementation, and compliance with all mandatory airworthiness directives and regulatory actions for engines.
  • Managing engine performance and development of remedial action plans as required. This will entail the use of engine health monitoring tools and data.
  • Monitoring of any safety related events and responding with timely mitigating actions.
  • Being a focal for technical support and management of a Qantas Group engine fleet for internal and external customers, stakeholders, OEMs, and external MROs.
  • Building and sustaining effective relationships with stakeholders to manage and facilitate Qantas Engineering business objectives.
  • Supporting the optimisation of through life safety, operation and economics of Qantas Group engine fleet(s) through the application of technical expertise.
  • Assisting the engine fleet planning function to develop maintenance cost projections and budgets.
  • Mentoring and supporting other members of the Engine Fleet Management team to build resilience, maintain engagement and increase capability.
  • Complying with Group Management Systems and Policy

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, preferably Aeronautical or Mechanical, i.e., Bachelor of Engineering as recognised by Engineers Australia
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise mature engineering judgment in the discipline of Power Plant Engineering as related to commercial aviation gas turbine jet engines
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyse data to solve complex problems and provide insight into engineering issues
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build and maintain working relationships with customers and stakeholders
  • Asset management experience relating to a large commercial aviation fleet (including Entry Into Service and on-going fleet support)
  • Mentoring / coaching skills in the discipline of Power Plant Engineering in a commercial aviation environment
