The Qantas Legal team reports to the General Counsel & Group Executive, Office of the CEO (OCEO) and works across the Qantas Group, supporting this market leading, global organisation. We’re a high performing team with broad expertise and we each have the opportunity to add value and make an impact on the business.

In this Legal Counsel role, you will be part of the Legal Team dedicated to providing legal support to the commercial airports, leasing, property development and ground operations parts of the business, while simultaneously assisting the Group maintain compliance and its reputation in the market.

You will provide high quality and solution focused legal analysis and advice for projects, transactions and business initiatives, which also reflects the Qantas Group’s risk framework and policies. You will negotiate, draft and review a broad range of commercial documents for a diverse range of projects and stakeholders within the business, providing tailored and timely support to your internal stakeholders.

You will be responsible for briefing business managers on risks and recommendations; and maintaining effective working relationships with external lawyers, other counterparties and colleagues.

Reporting into one of the Heads of Legal, you will both work with other Legal Team members and collaborate with members of OCEO and internal stakeholders, contributing to and growing the Legal Team’s capability within the Qantas Group 

You’ll have –

  • A current Practising Certificate in an Australian state or territory.
  • A minimum of 3+ years PQE, across property or construction law disciplines, while experience in general corporate and commercial law disciplines would also be considered.
  • A mix of Tier 1 law firm or large corporate in-house experience is preferred. 
  • Proven and successful experience in contract drafting and high level negotiating skills, and providing pragmatic commercial advice.
  • Experience in managing the delivery of legal services in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of transactions and the ability to juggle competing demands and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to provide legal services unsupervised (within a team-oriented business environment) but also to co-ordinate with both in-house and external resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing close working relationships with clients to achieve business objectives.
  • Confident and effective interpersonal and communication skills, capable of relating well to people at all levels in an organisation and the ability to confront difficult issues.
